As a former criminal barrister with over 25 years of experience in the public sector, I specialize in creating safe and supportive places for those in safeguarding leadership roles.To bring this experience to a wide audience, I now run memberships for safeguarding professionals and offer 1-1 coaching and support. My goal is to help them maximize their impact in keeping children safe and take care of their own well-being. Together with Paul Stewart - an ex premier league and international footballer who is an abuse survivor who works to stop abuse, I run Safeguarding Fundamentals.
At the core of my work is a skill I have honed in court and at the criminal cases review commission - synthesizing information to create a coherent narrative, pulling it all together to determine the questioning strategy, and presenting it in ways that win over juries and judges. This skill is critical in safeguarding and child protection, which is a huge topic, and finding the bits that people need is what I excel at.
The needs of people I engage with via training or in anything are at the front of what I produce. It must be relevant to the audience, and it takes time to work out the details so that clients are best represented. I deal with Cabinet member issues, heads of children’s services, adults services, Chief Execs, Vice Chancellors, police, and senior leaders in health. This skill is presenting things for the audience, not me, and it's never the same because everyone needs something different.
I have extensive experience of safeguarding in schools - being responsible for safeguarding at a MAT and as an advisory board member at a school that specialises in SEND and Mental Health.
I have also produce a wide range of training courses across the whole breadth of safeguarding form Prevent to online harms, sexual violence and harassment, Safeguarding for Taxi drivers and Safeguarding in Sport. All of the courses are CPS certified and endorsed by organisations such as Skills for Health, NSPCC and the English football League.
